Mascot System is Diorama's animated companion layer used in onboarding and assistant entry. It combines procedural motion, expression states, and interaction behaviors to create a consistent character presence.
Ren tended to avoid tracking apps exactly when he was behind, because opening one felt like reporting to a stern teacher. Diorama's mascot took some of that edge off — tapping it to ask for help felt easier than wading into a menu. He came back more often.
Why it matters
Emotional tone influences whether users return to reflective tools during difficult days. A well-designed companion can reduce app coldness and make guidance feel more supportive without adding cognitive overhead.
How Diorama uses this
See the mascot during onboarding moments and as the top-right AI entry point. Tap mascot surfaces to open assistant experiences quickly. Experience animation behaviors such as blink, gaze, pulse, glow, and celebratory state transitions.
What you can do
The mascot appears in key moments where Diorama wants to provide tone, orientation, or assistance. It is not just a static icon: layered animation and behavioral logic create a more expressive, responsive character.
In everyday use, mascot interaction also serves as an entry point to AI support, so guidance remains quickly reachable from the main app shell.
The system already includes substantial rendering and motion foundations, including procedural updates and interaction state handling.
Notes and limitations
Behavior consistency is still being unified across all app states, and some defined modes do not yet map to distinct product-visible behavior everywhere.
Accessibility and performance tuning remain important as the animation system grows in complexity.
The science
A friendlier interface can lower the sense of being judged, and feeling judged is a big reason people avoid checking in when things are off track. A familiar character helps most when it is tied to something useful, like a way in to help, and when its warmth stays subtle rather than performing at you.
Limitations
Some mascot modes are not yet fully mapped consistently across all visual surfaces. Advanced animation behavior still needs broader accessibility and performance validation. Test coverage is strongest for core rig math, with lighter coverage for full visual behavior integration.
Helpful tools don't have to feel clinical. A little warmth can be the difference between opening the app on a bad day and skipping it.
