First-triathlon guide
Gear for your first triathlon
What it is
A first-triathlon kit is the small set of items you need to swim, bike, run, and change between them. Group it by when it is used: swim items, bike items, run items, and a few transition basics. Lay it out in sequence before race week so omissions are visible early.
Why it matters
A simple rehearsal avoids race-morning decisions. It also keeps transition space clear, which makes it easier to follow the event's rules and find the next item when you are wet or tired.
How Diorama uses this
The beginner plan schedules this review before race week. Mark it reviewed after you have made your own event-specific list; the app does not certify that equipment is complete or legal.
A practical example
Before her first race, Noor made a long shopping list and still worried she had missed something. She replaced it with four short sections — swim, bike, run, and transition — then checked each item against the organiser's athlete guide. The list got shorter, and the decisions that mattered became visible before race morning.
What the evidence says
There is no universal first-triathlon kit list. Wetsuit eligibility, helmet requirements, bib placement, transition storage, and prohibited equipment are event-specific. This page therefore treats the organiser's athlete guide as the authoritative source rather than presenting a generic shopping list as a rule.
The best race kit is not the most expensive kit. It is the small, familiar set you have checked, practised with, and packed for the event you are actually entering.
Limitations
Event requirements, weather, water temperature, and local rules vary. Use the race briefing, organiser communications, and qualified local advice over a general checklist.
Put it into practice
Turn the next question into a plan.
Diorama asks nine questions, then builds a beginner triathlon plan around your race, schedule, experience, and available time. It keeps the training logic visible and points event-specific questions back to your organiser's briefing.
